Value Stream Mapping in Excel: Import Your Data Instead of Drawing the Map
The most searched value stream template is an Excel file. Excel can draw the icons, but it cannot calculate a timeline, find the bottleneck or compare a future state. A better way: keep the data in Excel or Google Sheets and let the tool calculate the map.
Import data from Excel
A sheet with one row per process or inventory is enough (name, type, cycle time, changeover time, uptime, inventory). The app reads xlsx and csv, maps columns automatically (including your own column names such as "C/T (s)"), shows a preview, and either chains new processes with push arrows or inserts them where you choose. Existing processes with the same name are updated, which makes quarterly updates easy.
Exports for reports and presentations
- PDF from A4 to A0 landscape with a metrics bar, optionally with your own logo (white label).
- PowerPoint with title, map, metrics, data boxes, inventories, product mix and action items.
- Excel report with metrics, processes, inventories, mix loading, action items and map checks.
- PNG and SVG for wikis, intranet and documentation; JSON as a backup and for sharing.

Is there a value stream mapping Excel template to download?
Yes. The CSV data sheet on the "Value stream map templates" page opens directly in Excel or Google Sheets. Fill it in and import it in the editor, and the map is built from it. You can also export the data boxes of an existing map as CSV.
Can I import Visio or PowerPoint files?
No. Icons from Visio or PowerPoint carry no data. The import reads process data from Excel or CSV, and the map is built from it with a timeline and metrics.
