Free Value Stream Map Templates: Data Collection Sheet, Excel Data Sheet, Starter Maps
Three templates that work together: a data collection sheet for your walk through the shop floor, an Excel data sheet that ValueStreamMapping.app imports directly, and starter maps for typical value streams. All free, no sign-up.
Data collection sheet (print)
The data collection sheet has one row per process with all data box fields and room for five cycle time readings, plus rows for inventories and the information flow. It opens as a print page in A4 or Letter; press Ctrl+P or choose "Save as PDF" and you have the template.
Excel/CSV data sheet (import)
The data sheet uses the columns of ValueStreamMapping.app: name, type, role, cycle time, processing time, changeover time, uptime, utilization, scrap, batch size, operators, machines, shifts, EPEI, inventory, max. inventory, pacemaker, performance rate. Fill in one process or inventory per row, save as xlsx or csv and import via "Import Excel or CSV". Your own column names are mapped automatically.
Starter maps in the editor
- Steering bracket (current state, complete) and steering bracket (future state): the textbook example.
- Machine building: single-part manufacturing with outside heat treating.
- Food: mixing and filling.
- Variant production: three products on one line with product mix, changeover matrix and EPEI.
- Exercise: current state pump assembly, and Exercise: solution.
- Empty current-state map: only customer, supplier and production control.
Why not a PowerPoint template?
Symbols in PowerPoint or Visio carry no data. Timeline, takt time and bottleneck have to be calculated by hand and redrawn with every change. ValueStreamMapping.app exports finished maps as PowerPoint, PDF, SVG and PNG, so your presentation shows the current numbers.
Practice in the editor
Open the empty current-state map and import your completed data sheet.

Is there an Excel version of the template?
Yes, as a CSV data sheet that Excel opens directly. After filling it in, import it in the editor; the map is built from it, with timeline and metrics.
Do I need an account for the templates?
No. The data collection sheet, data sheet and starter maps work without signing in. You only need a free account for cloud storage, share links and live sessions.
